Inflation in zimbawe- 22,00,000 % 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 35
Zimbabwe's annual rate of inflation has surged to 2,200,000%, official figures have shown.

The figure is the first official assessment of prices in the troubled African nation since February, when the rate of inflation stood at 165,000%.

Zimbabwe, once one of the richest countries in Africa, has descended into economic chaos largely blamed on the policies of President Robert Mugabe.

Mr Mugabe was re-elected last month in a controversial one-man race.

The opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), pulled out of the run-off election, saying its supporters were being attacked and killed.

Rising costs are forcing retailers to increase prices a number of times a day for goods purchased with billion dollar bank notes and the number of people falling into poverty is on the rise.

In May, the central bank issued a 500m Zimbabwe dollar banknote, worth US$2 at the time of issue, to try to ease cash shortages amid the world's highest rate of inflation.

This is in stark contrast with the situation at independence in 1980 when one Zimbabwe dollar was worth more than US$1.

Mr Mugabe denies that he is ruining the economy, laying the blame on international sanctions he says have been imposed against Zimbabwe.

The US and the EU have imposed targeted sanctions, such as a travel ban and an assets freeze, on Mr Mugabe and his close allies.

Zimbabwe, where a loaf of bread costs $1.5 million 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 15
Damn!! Thts true frds.

Read the following facts to understand the desperate situation in Zimbabwe.

1)The cost of a loaf of bread is around 1.5M $ (around 35 cents of American currency). The cost is around 1/3rd of a teacher's average salary. The rate is well still increasing.
By the time I'd have finished writing this post, the rate might have increased atleast by couple of thousands dollars.

2) One of Zimbabwe's most respected economists, John Robertson, said that while inflation was probably about 2m% in May, it soared again last month. "I think the June figure is more likely to be 10m% and it could turn out 15m%," he said.

We, in India, are panicked at double digit inflation rate.

3)The central bank has already issued a $50bn note.

Bill Gate's, approx., entire fortune in American Dollars.

4) Ordinary people are permitted to draw only $100bn (36p) a day from their banks. However, the government has made an exception for soldiers, fearing unrest in the military. They are allowed to take out $1.5 trillion a day and the cash is delivered by the banks to the barracks.

100b$ is, approx., the combined value of top three companies in India

5)The parallel rate for the American dollar is $270bn.

270bn $ was the approx. foreign exchequer of India in 2003-2004.

6)The official exchange rate remains at $30,000 per US dollar. But only a select few at the top of the regime have access to buy foreign currency at that rate. It has enabled some of them to buy luxury cars for no more than a few pounds through currency manipulation.

well India has similar kind of situation in this respect

oh by the way!!

The above stated facts might not stand true for more than 2 hours straight. Plus, I'd suggest none of you to quote figures about Zimbabwe.

Well I thought of adding the pic of the President as well. Just to keep the readers' visual senses ticking
