Intelligence based on CBSE results or logical application of mind? 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 6
This question may arise every year once the cut offs are out... Due to fierce competition increasing every year, a student who secures 90% above can only make it to Delhi University, and may b to the best courses in the 3rd or 4th cut off.

Principal of SRCC P.C.Jain said “you cannot expect the cutoff to go beyond this. Students are already securing high marks and it’s time to give them a break.”

I think the principal is right over here.
What I think is that the competition is so fierce, that the best of the students who have caliber and good logical skills do not even make it to DU.

But yes, we can also say that for the students who had a hard luck in CBSE, can always win a chance in the best of professional courses like
BBS Bachelor of Business Studies introduced by Sukhdev College of Commerce,
BBE Bachelor of Business Economics, the best college being Sri Guru Govind College Of Commerce accompanied with 7 other colleges...
BBA Bachelor of Business Administration introduced by various private institutes, most famous being IP University.
BIFM Bachelor of Financial management
BCA Bachelor of Computer administration Etc

These courses actually demand your verbal ability, logical reasoning, mathematical aptitude, Business awareness, and the most important being General Awareness. These exams actually train you for your career ahead, for example, the students applying for MBA will be tested on these very bases.
Questions asked in Mathematical aptitude are actually mental math’s questions of grade 7 8 and 9..!!!! Not many in DU’s best colleges will be able to answer these questions.
A question for you: A sum of Rs6.25 is made up of 80 coins which are either 10 paisa coins or 5 paisa coins. How many coins are there of each kind?
Answer: 10 paisa coins 45
5 paisa coins 35.

Many of us don’t even know the no. of states in India, or may be the capital of each state. Most of us use Airtel and Vodafone mobile phones. Have you ever thought to make an attempt to know the CEO of these companies whose gadgets you are using in your everyday life??

But the students getting 93%, 94% and so on are not hard working..???
It won’t be write to say this too.
Students have worked hard through out the year to get into the best college.
You won’t find dumb people sitting in SRCC or Hansraj or Stephens, somewhere their intelligence has paid them good results.
Many students especially commerce stream students think that best college in hand gives the best placement 3 years down the line. But let me tell you, if you are of this thought, you are mistaken.
SRCC pass outs for the session 2007-08 did not make it to IIM, not even 1 student from SRCC cleared CAT. Isn’t this a shock for you youngsters, that in spite of the best college in hand, your career stands any where after 15 years of high education..?

Believe me, the interview you face and the group discussion you have actually tells about your true potential which cannot be acquired through merely mugging up your CBSE text books.
I’ll give you an example my senior gave me 1 year back: students who cleared written exam in Sukhdev College of commerce and still did not make it to BBS were the worst sufferers. The topic for the group discussion was GREEN. How man of you can actually discuss on this for about 20 min..? I m sure not many from SRCC or Hansraj..?
There was an answer which said that its is evoked by the term light, a mixture of yellow and blue, which symbolizes growth in some cultures while devil in others, its also the national color of Ireland and is a reminiscent of Spring.

I think this answer tells how far you are from enhancing your logical application of mind. This can be acquired from reading magazines, reading novels which enrich your vocabulary, keeping your newspaper reading up to date which again add to your vocabulary and heighten you general knowledge.

You need to go beyond your school books and have a broader vision in mind while shaping your career, and gang stars it’s not your friends, not your parents, not your teachers, but it’s you who is the future generation representing your self and your country.

Well first of all a gr8 post and now here are my 2 cents......Education from a college is more often than not is discharged to create social assets that can add value to the society...now in real terms this value is basically the monetary potential that an individual has by the virtue of the job that he/she does. SO i can safely say that good college educatio relates to a job....now driving upon this point one can bring into the larger perspective that most companies today pay special relvance to logical tests, extracurricular records and communication skills etc etc...while they select a candidate while marks being just an elimination criterion.. Now in this perspective what we can say is that the loic of selecting people to be trained for future jobs just on the basis of marks when the job providers themselves don't believe in this is all but flawless.

At least to my understanding this is archaic and is bound to dissolve very soon....a gr8 post anyways Neha

@ Neha!!

Gr8 work. But I'd expect a holistic vision next time.

Following are few things, I wanted to add on. They might be a bit contentious to ur take but they're completely my personal takes.

Seems like the leader of the pack has reached the summit. Thank u Mr. Jain, I wasn't expecting ur college to ask for a 99% in best of four.:)

These courses actually demand your verbal ability, logical reasoning, mathematical aptitude, Business awareness, and the most important being General Awareness. These exams actually train you for your career ahead, for example, the students applying for MBA will be tested on these very bases.

Add on: A good knowledge of ur fav. subjects is also required to make it to a B-skool.

Well, I wonder how many of them actually took the CAT in the first place. Secondly, IIMs are no parameter to judge a graduate's success.

Believe me, the interview you face and the group discussion you have actually tells about your true potential which cannot be acquired through merely mugging up your CBSE text books.

An interview and a GD requires fair amount of communication skills to impress the judges/observer. But, am sure there are lot of scholars, with great potentials in their subjects, who don't fair well with communication skills. Thus, An interview and a GD does tell something about the skils of an aspiring MBA but not necessarily about the skills and caliber of every individual with potential.
