DUSU Elections - - YOUR OPINION 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 4
All hell breaks lose when the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections are flagged. The Campus comes alive with student political and criminal activity. From freshers to masters, every student is gripped by election fever. DUSU election is regarded as something more important than Central or State level elections. It is a dress rehearsal for student-leaders who seek a future in mainstream politics. The candidates contesting the elections need to lure the students and win their votes. The question is whether the DUSU election is safe and clean or is it a step ahead of gutter politics.

DU elections today are more of a nuisance than a representation for the students. The elections are merely stepping stone to hardcore politics. The political scenario that gets created in the university disturbs the studies and diverts them from it. Hooting of slogans, posters, cars and students on the roads, this is the scene that we generally see on any election day. Hence I don?t support the cause.

Elections do provide a platform for the students for their grievances. We definitely know that there is a body that we can hold responsible for the happening. It helps us set up a base for the improvement of the campus and the welfare of the students at large.

I think these elections are totally insignificant for me because I don?t come on the Election Day to vote, I just see these union people once an year, at the time of campaigning. I have nothing to do with these elections and hence nothing to say also.

I don?t have much of knowledge about the DUSU elections but ya college union is very important as long as they are able to organize a good fest and call famous celebrities.

even though i am a first year student, but i have never seen such a showbiz during elections at the student level anywhere else except in DU...there is no point of elections until and unless the ruling parties come up with some concrete steps and implement the ideas they generally produce while going to pursue people during elections...i guess they become active only during the fest season. but thats not what they are for...they should look after the needs of students, see if their is proper infrastructure, whether placement cells are effective or not, availability of enough opportunities and discipline in the campus in terms of the havoc that is generally made by these party people themselves...otherwise, DU elections are just a waste of time, money and efforts...
