Thousands have already suffered from the grotesque that CAT 2009 has turned out to be. First the agony of test malfunctions then the comedy that circled around rescheduling. If that were not enough, the delay in declaration of results is something that one can only be sorry about.

Result Delay: the casualties

While the rationale of declaring accurate results holds absolutely true especially after such a fiasco, the turmoil that the aspirants have gone through cannot be ignored. Many institutes have already shunned the CAT scores from their admission process. MICA was the first to get rid of the most revered MBA admission test and Great Lakes Institute of Management is the recent entry (GLIM).

GLIM shuns CAT too

GLIM as told by trusted sources has sealed its profile evaluation process and would not wait for the CAT results to finalize its admission decisions for the GDPI calls. There is still no clarity on whether the CAT scores will impact the people who have been shortlisted on the basis of XAT, GMAT, GREAT in line with their profiles but have also chosen CAT 2009 as the aptitude test for evaluation. The confusion reign supreme and the aspirants have hardly any option but to wait endlessly to probably the most controversial CAT ever. Ankit Gupta an MBA aspirant from MBA says, “Its getting difficult to digest the delays with every passing day. The fact is that I am perturbed but have no option but to wait.”

Calling pragmatism

While one can understand the huge pressure that such a gigantic exercise puts on the resources, IIM’s will do well to understand the brand dilution that this year’s CAT has done. There are lessons to be learnt not only from the mistakes that have been made but also from the successful expedience of online tests by Institutes such as GLIM and Narsee Monjee. We hope that when declared, the results are far from controversies and let the best minds in the country make it to the most prestigious institutes of the nation.
